What is the Ceruloplasmin test? Ceruloplasmin is a copper-containing enzyme that plays a very important role in the body’s iron metabolism. This test analyzes the amount of ceruloplasmin in the blood. Copper is an essential mineral that plays a role in the regulation of iron metabolism, the formation of connective tissue, energy production within cells, and the function of the nervous system. It absorbs food and liquids through the intestines and then is transported to the liver, where it is stored or used to produce a variety of enzymes. This also helps your body to make the substance that gives your skin pigment (melanin).
