What is the Direct Coombs test (DCT)? The Direct Coombs test also called the direct antiglobulin test (DAT), is used to detect antibodies that get attached to the surface of red blood cells (RBCs). Certain types of diseases and drugs can cause this condition. These antibodies sometimes destroy the red blood cells and lead to anaemia.
