What is the Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Antibody IgM test? Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus that causes mild illness. The CMV test evaluates IgM antibodies, which are produced by the body first in response to a CMV infection. The CMV virus belongs to the herpes virus family, which also includes the viruses that cause chickenpox and mononucleosis. CMV is spread through close contact with blood or bodily fluids, including through sexual contact.
